DECORATIVE TECHNIQUES ABOUT US
Pollie and Garry are continually experimenting with decorative techniques on a white earthenware body. They find the decoration of the Indian patchwork quilts and embroidered garments endlessly inspiring.
The outlet for their work is mainly through ceramic shows in the UK and Europe, where they are able to talk through their enthusiasm for their work and for India with potential customers. They also exhibit in a number of galleries where they are able to reach a totally different audience.
Their enthusiasm for India has led to them running workshops at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad and at the Sanskriti Kendra in Delhi, enjoying a month as artists in residence at both institutes.
Whilst much of their work is of a functional nature, it is in their wall panels that they have the most opportunity to express their ideas, responding to the liveliness and rich decoration of the textiles.
Pollie and Garry also run one day workshops at their studio in Derbyshire for beginners and more advanced students alike, where the emphasis is on producing finished decorative bowls and dishes, rather than just learning a technique.
Please check the Venues page to see where you van meet them and see their work in 2010.
